Aside from the differences that greasemonkey points out, both are water cooled and both use ordinary 30 weight oil. The design of the external cases is a little different since they mount differently. Both require a transmission of some kind and that transmission is usually direct drive (1:1) since the V-drive provides the reduction gearing.
