Is it a Thunderbolt IV or not.

ThunderCraft94

New member
Good Morning, I'm a new member, and this will be my first post.

I have a 1994 ThunderCraft 230CC with a Mercuiser 5.7. I thought I had a Thunderbolt ignition, but not to sure anymore...
It all started with a no sparks situation. First I checked the coil and it was good, but I went one step further, and tried a second that I had what I know is good, with the same result of no spark at the coil.

I read a post from a member ignisuti, that kghost had commented on, and I followed his directs to find the problem. This is were things get interesting.

I looked for the module on the riser, but it wasn't there, for that matter, it wasn't anywhere, I couldn't even find the wire harness for it.

But it does have a Thunderbolt IV module on the distributor.

There is a group of wires coming up on the left side of the distributor that has a black wire not attached to anything

One goes the a switch on the shifter linkage, a purple thats not connected and a black thats not connected which I figure is a ground but cant find anyplace they might go.

Im not sure what I should do at this point, Am I missing parts?,
I could really use some help
Thanks.

It a thunderbolt distributor cap...with the -IV module so don't understand the uncertainty.

best to use your serial number to get the correct wiring diagram to figure out what should be where.

BLK wires are ground wires and many items have dedicated ground wires (vs just using the mounting bolts)...PUR wires are +12VDC for the ignition circuit...

Thanks for the reply
It would seem its my stupidity, I thought there was a separate module on the riser that ran the module on the distributor, I now understand its the same one just in a different location. Sorry for the confusion.
But would you have any Idea on the purple wire and the 2 grounds
Thanks

Purple near carb is a spare,

Any Black is a ground. If there is one coming from distributor sensor (inside cap) or TB V, connect to ground.
