The 9.5hp model is a good design but somewhat difficult to work on at times. However, as with anything mechanical, things can and do go wrong. The dependability of the one you speak of depends on what condition it is in at the moment.

THey first came into the marine outboard picture way back in the early 1960's and there are thousands of them still running strong. That says something for them.

oh,and no after market carb kit avail for those,..that i am aware of.....just info...oem,is around 50 bucks.
