Irreplaceable trim sending unit

I have an 1989 Evinrude 150 XP Model # E150STLCEM (on a VIP Fish and Ski boat) that has a bad trim sensing unit (583358). The gauge tests just fine using some resistors (50 ohms = dead center). But sending unit reads up around 50K ohms. The problem is I can't find this part anywhere. Including eBay. My options seem to be:

1. Go without a trim gauge.

2. Try to fix the existing sending unit. It will not be easy but I've done this kind of thing before with some success.

3. Replace both the sending unit and the gauge. Not sure how feasible this is.

4. Other ideas?

Thanks for your input.

Thanks Kevin!

That unit does not have the same external configuration. This unit on ebay does in fact look exactly the same externally. But I don't know what the resistance of the pot is.

I may try that one. Roll the dice.

My understanding is that the gauge is just measuring resistance which was confirmed by my placing resistors across the wires. So ground would not play a roll. Good suggestion though.
