IO OB 3.0 L wont start after de-winterizing

We bought apontoon boat in Dec 2012. It didn't exactly crank fine, but it would start if you moved the handle back and forth a few times. Then with the winter setting in we winterized it. Yesterday (April 2013) we wanted to go for a boat ride. Before we hauled it to the boat ramp myhusband tried to crank it in the yard (with the help of the hose pipe), Ittried to crank, it almost cranked, but no luck. My husband"thinks" its a fuel delivery problem.

My friend saidthat you have to drain all the fuel out before you winterize the boat. But the directions my husband followed said that you could leave the fuel I, but no more than 2/3 full.
Could this bewhy our boat will not crank?
Any otherideas?

Thanks inadvance for any help!

The person telling you have to drain fuel from tank , is wrong. When you put it away you run motor out of fuel.... is this engine Mercury's EFI 3.0L

Assuming you have a fully charge battery....What do you mean by crank over? When you turn the key to start, does the starter engage and turn the engine but not fire up? If yes, check the kill switch on the shift controller. If no, meaning the starter does not engage, check the starter slave solenoid. It should be located on the lower part of the shift bracket assembly.

We figured it out. Silly us, we should have read the manual. We were unaware that we needed to use the "throttle only button" after long term storage. I dont think the guy we bought it from even knew this because he was always pushing the handle back and forth to get it to start.

We cranked it in the yard and my husband ran it for 15 minutes. It seemed great. Hopefully this was the only problem,

Thanks,

When staring a COLD carburated boat engine follow these steps.

1. push neutral start up button in to disengage shifter from throttle.

2. Pump the handle forward only a couple of times, leave handle at ~ 10:00 position.

3. crank over engine

4. when engine starts YOU must control engine RPM. There is NO high idle biult in.

5. Push handle downward, C'clockwise direction and keep engine RPM's at 1500 to 2000 rpms for a minimum of 30 seconds to one minute.

4 cylinder motors need this as a minimum to warm up properly.

Always make sure water is flowing whether in water or on a hose.

After ~ 1 minute of warm up the throttle can be backed down to the neutral position.
