Hi, I have had intermittent power steering for several years 89 Alpha 1 with a 4.3. Originally started most boating seasons without power Steering...but at some point sometimes the 1st ride out it would star working properly. The last 2 seasons I have had no power steering.
I know the Steering cable works freely and so does the outdrive with everything disconnected. Years ago I had the pump pressure checked and it was fine (also belt is not slipping, fluid is fine and does not leak).
So I believe my problem is in the actuator. I have pulled it off. I don't see any obvious problems, orings appear un nicked and flexible, no marks in the shaft.... I did not completely disassemble however.
Has anyone ran across this before?
