Installing trim gauge on a 2019 BF150A

I have a 2019 BF150A and I purchased a Faria trim gauge for the Honda trim system. I hooked the yellow/blue wire coming from the 4 Honda factory harness wires labeled Signal to the signal on the gauge. I then jumped a + and - from other sources to the gauge. Unfortunately, this does not work.

The Honda factory harness 4 wires labeled "Trim" are not connected to anything except for the yellow/blue wire that I hooked to the trim gauge. Should I hook those other wires up? One is a +, one is a ground, and I believe one is for the gauge lights.

Thank you!

If nothing else, would one of you be so kind as to take a picture of your trim gauge where the wiring attaches to the gauge? Preferably on a later model BF of 150hp or more. Thanks!

Cannot send you a picture until a week or two, but the Trim Gauge needs two grounds, one is for the integral lights and the other is for Trim Gauge return; ie.; with the Y/B wire from the Trim Angle Sensor and a correct ground to gauge return (not lamp return) the gauge should work. If you post a picture of the back of the gauge, also showing wires, I may be able to help.

Thank you for the advice. I got it working. Maybe a dumb mistake but I had to turn the key switch on to get it to work correctly. Just turning on a helm switch and powering the gauge made it read in correctly. Once I turned the ignition on it started reading correctly. Thank you!

I may have something wrong because as I was zip tying the wires I popped a fuse.

Yellow/blue goes to the signal.
There is a yellow/black. Do I hook it to the Ignition terminal on the gauge or just use a jumper wire to a 12v source?

As far as the gauge lights, I dont plan on hooking them up right now.

Thank you!

Ok, I finally got this project done........the hard and long way, but I wont to give an update in case anyone wants to install a trim gauge on a later model Honda outboard.

If you have a later model Honda outboard with a model that can have a trim gauge, chances are the wires and trim sensor are already there and only need to be connected to a gauge that you buy. Make sure to buy a gauge made for a Honda. If you look under the dash at the wiring harness, the trim gauge wiring is 4 wires separated from the others. Mine was labeled "Trim" on one of the 4 wires.

Once you buy the gauge, here is how you connect the wires:

Yellow/Blue connects to the Signal connector on the gauge.
Yellow/Black connects to gauge +
Red/white connects to one of the gauge light bulb connectors
Black wire is spiced with 2 ground connectors. One goes to gauge negative(-) and the other connector goes to the light bulb negative (-) on the gauge.

The trim gauge will work only when the ignition switch is on using this method.

I’m into it now, 2018 bf115d
Honda gauge and blk/y positive wire has 12.5vdc and then signal yell/blu signal
And black is ground 12vdc neg
Motor is down but gauge reads 7/8 up and I raise trim and gauge needle moves up to top of gauge with motor only 4” up from the floor
Do I add 12 positive to the already Blk/ yellow stripe ?

I had wrong gauge, bought proper from Japan and wiring it up today
