"The mechanic that is installing my points, rotor and condenser asked me to see what the gap is on these. Also, if anyone on this site could mention the timing specs as they are hard to read on the block

Thanks"

"Why don't you do away with the points and condensor and go electronic? Pertronix has a GREAT setup for these engines. Electronic is the way to go.....They start fast, with no problems. I love it!!!!"

"Eric,

Do you have a link where I can look at/purchase this system? I did already purchase all of the components that my friend told me to buy, but it doesnt mean I cant upgrade in the future. Living in Maine, I have a finite boating season. As it is I am looking at August and part or to most of September, than that is it, so I was hustling to get it back to running. Thanks for the heads up and any info would be much appriciated!

"www.hot-spark.com is what I put in my boat. So far so good at half the price of a pertronix kit.

"Getting rid of your points an

"Getting rid of your points and installing electronic will show the most drastic improvements in your boats performance for the problems you currently face. It will start more easily, idle better, and improve your acceleration a little.

I recall reading that pertronix patent expired recently and now companies such as hotspark are manufacturing the same kits at a fraction of the cost. Not a huge amount of feedback yet on hotspark but they seem to be doing the trick the same as pertronix.

If it's feasible, order asap and return your points kit and get your money back.

I guess it all hinges on your loss of time on the water to basically having to depart with the cash for your temporary points replacement and then the cost of the electronic ignition when the season's over when you have more time for the boat to be 'down'.

At any rate, your decision. After all, it's only paper with green ink.

"Whether you install Pertronix or Hot Spark, you should notice a great improvement when compared with points."
