Installing a whip hose and cap on a Merc 454

If a “whip hose” means connecting a hose to a fitting that has been threaded into the Engine block drain port...... do not do this!
That would prevent you from having a means of probing the open port to clear any rust scale.
Rust scale may prevent complete drainage!

.

Merc has that "Quick Crack System" dosent work all the time. Just did a customers with that system . Port side engine block did drain, stbd side was plugged solid and did not drain.

....and a piece of plain old hose laying the bilge connected to a point in the engine, that if it fails could result in a sinking.

There ya go...... an actual testimony as to why this is NOT a good idea!

Volvo Penta did a similar thing in the mid 90s.

Some of these are known as a "single point drain system"!
Sounds good.... but are a very bad idea!
