"I am about to replace a 1989

"I am about to replace a 1989 Force with a 94-150 Merc. Will the controls work? The old was not oil injected. The new did not come with tank or controls, is it worth getting injection parts or just mix? Also, the motor is crated laying down, what is the best way to attach to it for lifting?"

"'89? No. Not the wiring, anyway. Morse controls can be changed with adaptor kits if it is a 33C cable. Up to you if you want to mix the gas and finish removing the oil injection system. Easier to find a tank and lines for it. Lifting it is done with a factory tool that screws into the flywheel."

"Is the oil tank model specific or will any Merc tank work. it appears to just fill a resivoir on the motor. I have the service manual ordered, it should be here this week.
Will any modern Merc controls work or are they model specific?"
 
There is only one 3 gal tank m

There is only one 3 gal tank made that fits all Mercs. It installs in the boat and the one on the engine is a reserve. Merc has 2 different wiring harness's and you need the 8 pin/12 wire traditional harness. The controls are probably Morse which is universal.
