I recently purchased a MPC 4000 Gen II Series Mechanical Panel Control to replace the broken down old controller on my 1995 Nitro 170-DC Tracker boat. The engine is a Mercury Mariner Tracker Pro Series 60.
When attaching the control handle assembly to the remote control module, the automatic instinct is to install the handle pointing up in the neutral position. However, how do I know if the gears inside the remote control module are in the neutral position? I messed around with the unit (handle on the module) before installing the remote control module. There are no markings on the gear poking out to which the handle attaches. In order to work correctly, the gears need to be in the neutral position when I install the handle pointing straight up. How would I know if they are?
