how about a little history?
Engine size, year, ect ect ect.
We dont have any idea about your tachs past or present............typically they work for many years.
What brand was the original? what brand is the replacement?
Have you tried switching the pulse setting on the back of the gauge from the current setting to another and then back to re-establish the setting?
If it failed completely have you tried shorting ground to sender (very briefly) with the key on while watching the gauge to see if the needle moves/pegs?
So many questions and so few details................
