i have 1981 trojan f-32 with 3

i have 1981 trojan f-32 with 318 gas crystler engines--i noticed that one engine has an electronic inline gas filter and the other one has a non electric inline filter. Any reason? What is the difference? Both engines have new long blocks.

why would they install an elec

why would they install an electric pump?

Could it have been the manuel pump was not working??

Easier to put an electric one instead of replacing the one on engine??

i have owned the boat 4 yrs and concluded the previous owner always took the easy way out--not always the correct way!!

"That sounds dangerous to me. The electric is pushing or pulling fuel through what was obviously a non-functioning mechanical pump. If it's because the diaphram inside is shot, you could be pumping gas into the motor or bilge! I'd remove that electric pump immediately and put a new mechanical on there.

PS: Why remove the electric pump? No doubt the it's not hooked up through an oil pressure switch to cut it off when the motor stalls--an important safety requirement."

mechanical pump was replaced i

mechanical pump was replaced in 2005 when i had new block etc done.

electric pump was there.

what should be done?

"Two choices:

1. Go ack to the mechanical pump and remove the electric, or,

2. Wire up a circuit through an oil pump switch that turns off the pump if no oil pressure is present.
