" just bought a small alluminu

" just bought a small alluminum boat came with a johnson 7.5 seahorse (at least has one small seahorse sticker on cowling) the model number is J8RCTA Serial # F5739998. all the info I can find searching web so far says that J8R is an 8 horse motor not that it matters much for .5 horsepower but what is it so I will know? what year is it? ..was told it was only a few years old and it is very very clean under cowling. any info on this motor, year, stats, value? if its as new as it appears from what I can find on web so far and price I found at 4 or 5 online sites selling J8R model motors I fear that the thing may be stolen for what I paid for it... well thanks in advance for any info.

" ok may have allready answered some of my questions myself..its a 7.5 horse made in '83, and by the a on the end I think it was made more or less at the start of the model run, before the manufacture changed any thing from the original design more or less. am I close on this? so if its '83 its older than I thought from looking at cleanliness any place to find value of motors this old? thanks
