Hi all
Wondered if anyone knows if a 9.9 has a thermostat that controls cooling. My 9.9 impeller seems fine (by looks only) but will not pump water.

"Tom,
Has it overheated? Was the pump or coolant passages loaded with mud / silt and it couldn't pump?
I'm not familiar with that engine but I wouldn't waste my engine on a "seems fine" impeller. I'd get a new one if I already pulled the old one out. Also, I'd invest in a manual for my engine. A lot of good info in those books (or cd's these days).
Hope this helps,
DS"

"Yes, your motor has a thermos

"Yes, your motor has a thermostat. Do not try to operate it without the thermostat or most of the cooling water will bypass the powerhead.

Test it with a pan of water on the stove and a thermometer. It is designed to open at 105deg."

"OK Ken, But where is it locat

"OK Ken, But where is it located?
I cant seem to find it. Is it up inside the leg when I pull the lower unit?"

"PS - the motor did overheat,

"PS - the motor did overheat, but seemed fine again after it cooled off, (except for not pumping water)
There is no mud or silt plugging anything"
