"I have an Evinrude 4 Outboard

"I have an Evinrude 4 Outboard which was produce in Bruges, Belgium and I cant get it started.
I have contacted Evinrude direct but the Serial number is a mystery to Alan Mankart who has suggested that I put this message on the discussion board, in the hope that someone might have some info or manual on this engine.
The Serial Number on the name plate is 43B36C B33021 Evinrude Motors, Bruges, Belgium this is also on the core plug on the engine. I have attached a picture showing this number.
Any assistance that I can get will be appreciated.

The number 43B36C is the model

The number 43B36C is the model number.

4 = the horsepower
3 = the year (1973)
B = Belgium
36 = I believe this has to do with the short shaft/long shaft setup. Someone else will jump in here with that info.
C = Usually indicates the factory number run.

"I think Joe has it there. There was a 43B36 and 43B37 - with the B36 and B37 model versions running from 1972 to about 1979 - shaft length would be the logical assumption...

Although they did come with two different exhaust housings, one for the "weedless" version and one for the "standard" - sorry, can't find anything else listed at all and the OMC/BRP site only lists the "36" version in their parts lists...."

"What are the compression readings? With the spark plugs removed, do you have a strong blue spark jumping at least a 1/4" gap?

If the engine's been sitting for some time, I'd assume that the carburetor is fouled. If so, remove, clean, and rebuild it."
