Hey guys I’m new to this, just bought my first boat 6 days ago. Everything went well until last night. Going along fine, then all of a sudden a loud noise almost like a grinding or something spun out. Shortly after that, we began to lose the ability to go forward or reverse. There was a bit of smoke, not bad. There was a strong odor of almost burning rubber. We weren’t making any wake after it happened, it almost looked like a pool jet was shooting if that makes sense. Engine temp did spike shortly after then we shut it down.
We we ran it with ears in my driveway, everything seemed strangely normal. No clear signs of anything going wrong.
i read some posts about similar issues the possibility of it being an engine coupler? Any thoughts on this?
