Could a badly set float height explain why my(previously owned) outboard has always had a crazy idle speed?? The idle screw has been screwed out to the point that it does not contact the cam follower,so no way to reduce idle speed there. The idle mixture screw will reduce idle speed but that would make the mix very lean???
I have lived with the fast idle for years but it causes a terrible crunch on engaging forward/reverse?
Just cleaned carb replaced seriously abused idle mixture screw and all gaskets plus float valve needle, could not check float valve setting since manual neglects to provide this detail. Engine appears to be fine but idle too fast as before. Dont have Tacho or timing light so dont want to disturb any of those settings???
