Impeller vs waterpump

weve got a volvo280 with a she

weve got a volvo280 with a sheared shaft that drives the impeller can the impeller be replaced with a waterpump?is there any pros or cons to this idea?

Most of the self priming pumps are IMPELLER pumps.
As long as Yo get a pump that keeps up the required capacity at the different RPM's, You may of course install whatever You like. My guess is that the cheapest solution is to replace/repair the broken one with a similar one. Then it is up to You if You want a Johnson Pump, Jabsco or any other brand as long as the specs are close to the same."

I too am not sure that I understand your question re; replacing with a "waterpump"! These marine engines will have at least two pumps on them.... (1) an engine circulation pump.... and (2) a sea or raw water pump!
The OEM sea water pump is designed for the application by people who are much more educated in this area than most of us consumers are.
I must agree with what Morten just suggested.

How about letting us know which engine is this on?
