Impeller Replacement on 1987 BF8HA

Hello all,

This forum is full of helpful advice on many subjects and I've read through them with interest and gratitude to all those who've taken the time to reply with their extertise on the many questions posed in the threads, here.

I've searched the forum for any step by step instructions on "how to" replace the impeller on my engine. While I've looked at my HELM manual the flow chart doesn't exactly give the procedure or step by step helpful hints for the replacement. Also, as many of the technicians who've done an impeller repair on these older 1987 engines might attest, there might be some helpful tidbits of information that could save me from errors while attempting this "simple" repair.

Thanks to all, in advance.

Regards,
Don C

It is a little different than other motors.------Not difficult however.---------------------Remove the pin at the top of the shift rod.-------------The adapter on the shift rod will not go thru a seal.-------------Remove the front mount and the bolts for the exhaust housing.------It all drops down.----------Spin off the adapter ( measure where it is )-------------remove bolts for the lower unit to exhaust housing and there is the pump.----------Putting it all back together is easy.

Thank you so very much for your reply. Just in case, does the impeller go back in turning it counter clockwise? And is a new gasket required in reassembly. Finally, would one have the Honda part number and gasket number for this engine.

Again, Many thanks !!!

Put impeller on shaft , lower housing in place while turning driveshaft in direction of engine rotation.--------There is no other way !!-----boats.net ----------for all you other information.
