Impeller renewal problem- Mar/merc 45 Hp- newby needs help

Hi everyone
about 2 years ago i hit a hidden log with the prop and didn't think too much about it till recently when the tell tale began to splutter a bit and i decided to change the impeller - ok not a hard job and done it loads of times before (general maintainance etc) - THIS is whe my problems have started, i've undone the gearbox which is loose but it won't release the shaft from the head, i've unbolted the head from the casing so all is now loose, But the shaft is firmly stuck in the head so i believe it must have twisted. Before i decide to smash the top leg to get a grip on the shaft i want to ask is anyone knows of a less drastic way of releaseing the shaft from the head

More likely corrosion on the shaft in the head.Bolt up the power head,then try driving wooden wedges between the leg and the gearbox.Failing that tun her upside down and pour penetrating oil down the shaft and let it sit for awhile then try the wedges again

I have drilled the skeg attached a chain and used a hydraulic puller to get them apart.

Bolt the power head back up, bang in your wedges and start the engine. This will definitely brake it loose.
