I have 1981 7.5hp and I was fishing big Sam Rayburn and I went through some very thick grass for maybe about 5 mins. and noticed that there wasn't any water coming out of the pee hole so I shut the motor off and from that point had to towed back in. As far as I know the motor still runs. Got home an pull the lower unit off and found out that it had grass in the water intake tube. So heres my question does anybody think I should replace or put back the same impeller back in it? The other thing is when I bought this motor back in Feb. 2006 the previous owner said he just replaced the impleller and the entire water pump assembly.

Your in it this far I'd re

Your in it this far I'd replace it. It's leass than $30 and then you know its new. If you re-use the old one don't flip it over. All that will do is have you back in their looking for pieces of your shredded prop.

"I've had the impeller out

"I've had the impeller out for about a week and the impeller blades are still bent in the direction it turns, someone told me awhile back that if the impeller blades stay bent you need to replace it and if they straighten out it is still good. Should I replace just the impeller or the entire pump. They sale the kit in 3 ways just the impeller, repair kit, and a complete kit. How would I know if I need to buy a complete kit or just the impeller? I also have another question does my motor need a theromstat in it or not and what are the benifits with or without it?"

definately replace impeller. h

definately replace impeller. housing depends on condition.not sure if you have a thermo. but if you do keep it in there.
