I got a "good deal" on a pontoon boat with a 90hp Yamaha 4-stroke. On a short run test with cuffs, no telltale stream. Against my better judgement, I did not investigate further and did the deal. Upon pulling the water pump apart, discovered all vanes had departed. Found a pile of them in the pump iteself and down in the water pick-up. No way to account for them all as most were in chunks and pieces. Put it all back together and ran it again with cuffs. A weak telltale stream and warning horn (assume low water pressure?). Removed the LU and the thermostat, ran a garden hose into the thermostat, captured the water coming out of the tube, found a couple of tablespoons of sand and no rubber. What are the chances that rubber vane material has found itw way up into the block?
