Ignition Syatem

1987 25HP Mercury, top plug fires, bottom does not. Installed new switch box still same results. Switched wires from switch box to coils, bottom coil is good. Any idea what the problem is. Stator vs trigger?

The stator is just making energy to fire the plugs (which it does). I would suspect the trigger coil is bad.

Thanks for the help Jeff! I didn't include my test results that I did with ohm meter, in my first post. They were (stator results), between black/white stator lead and ground, service manual listing 120-180 ohms, actual reading 148 ohms, in limits. between black/yellow stator lead and ground, listing 3200-3800 ohms, actual reading 2750 ohms, out of limits, between black/yellow and black/white stator leads, listing 3100-3700, actual 2580, out of limits. Trigger testing results with ohm meter, between trigger leads brown/yellow and brown/white, listing 650-850 ohms, actual reading 798 ohms. These results are the reason I chose to replace the switchbox first, easiest and cheapest. Still didn't work, sorry Murphy's Law and my luck. Thanks Again

Good luck! After measuring everything in sight--and replacing each part with NEW (stator, Switch Box,, coils) my triple STILL won't run right. Next comes the trigger coil. I'll stumble onto the problem eventually!

That's how these things can run at times, and readings don't seem to matter--ALL of the above checked out fine.
