A 1990 120hp force has CDI ignition which has no points and a flat battery should not burn anything out.. Ensure your battery is fully charged and then follow basic troubleshooting procedures..

Do you know anything about an overheat
alarm on that motor?"

"Bill,
There should be a horn

"Bill,
There should be a horn behind your dash which is your overheat alarm. Looking at the cylinder head, there will be a single wire coming out of the cylinder head, this is the overheat sensor, follow this wire to the terminal strip, and with the ignition on, bridge a jumper wire from this terminal to ground, the horn should sound if your alarm is working. It should be labelled on the terminal strip as "overheat" and should be either an orange or tan/blue wire."
