Hi,I have a mercruiser v6 1991 thunderbolt Ignition. Has anyone out there, changed the old type distributor sensor,to the new type? I'm wondering If you still use the old ground attached to the distributor,or that the new one attached to the sensor does the job?
Struggling to get a spark:mad:.

Ok, one of the screws that holds the pick up coil to the distributor is longer and will be the attaching point on the bottom of the distributor for the new ground.

The new type sensor has two shorter screws, but the black ground wire that comes from the sensor has a larger connection attached to It,which suggests It should be attached to A larger ground such as the engine block ground studs attached at the rear of the engine & not the tiny one that was attached onto the old type connected to the distributor. Surely as long as Its on a good ground & attached also to the Ignition amp,It doesn't need to be screwed back on to the distributor? Which would mean changing the connector also.
