"I purchased a 1978 Olympic on consignment a month ago, boat is in Great condition and has quite a few features and upgrades. I think when replacing some parts they accidentally made it a non-runner? Thats how I bought it.
Currently it has a Mallory YL624JV dist. with a Pertronix 29Z V4 trigger. It had a non-resistor coil that was bad, I replaced with a Pertronix Flamethrower 1.5ohm coil. I can get spark now but only when jumping the coil? (+batt to +coil). I also have a wire that comes out of the harness that if grounded, sparks with the coil? Do I need to go to a Mallory trigger with this setup, I know it has a 3 wire hook up as opposed to 2 w/ Pertronix?
Another problem is the carburator, it is a 2 barrel Rochester #'s 17057138

it looks to be either new or professionally rebuilt. When cranking it just dumps fuel in, litterally, you can see it flowing over the butterflys? I opened it up and bent the float down but it didnt make a difference? Any clues or sites on how to rebuild this carb?
Any help is much appreciated, Im pretty handy, but boats are somewhat new to me. Thanks agian, Aaron"

Ayuh,........
Do you have Voltage at the (+) side of the Coil with the Key in the Run position,..??..??
How about in the Start position,..??..??

If Not,...... Figure out Why.......

The Factory Shop Manual will have a Carb section,+ will explain the Rebuild process...."

"Guess I forgot to check for voltage there after changing the coil, but with out the jumper wire I have no spark?
Is there anything on-line about the carb, maybe I just need to nut-up and just get a FSM?
Unfourtunetly I didnt get any manuals for this stuff when I bought the boat"

"If the dist. calls for a 3 wire trigger and you installed a 2 wire, it seems logical to use the 3 wire Mallory trigger. Not familiar with either items; just my thinking."

Ayuh,...... It'd be Nice if you came back with some Diagnostic Info.......
Such as the Answers to the Questions posed to you......

It's pretty hard to tell you Where to look, when you don't say Where you Have looked....

If it's Firing with a Jumper Wire,.....
I Doubt the Trigger is Bad....."

"Sorry about the delay, I work

"Sorry about the delay, I work 4-13's and get off about 3am. I will tear into it a little more this weekend. First I need to rectify the carb flooding issue, as no engine will run with that much fuel being dumped down it! Still looking for a site on rebuilding/tuning. Wont quite "fire up" with jumper wire, just sounds very close (carb)? As soon as work/sleep permits I will check and post findings of said questions. Thanks agian guys!"
