" I have a 5.7 Vortec engine with a Prestolite distributor and coil. The ignition module keeps burning out and at $85 a pop is getting agravating. I have the two wires from the module going to the positive & negative posts on the coil correctly, have verified the module gap setting (.008) and verified the other wires on the coil - positive post has the lead wire form the ignition switch and the sensor wire to the tach, negative post has an engine ground wire. Voltage at the coil while running is the same as the alternator output, anywhere from 13.7 to 15.2 depending on rpm. Any thoughts on why I keep losing the module? "

" Have you checked your wiring

" Have you checked your wiring diagram to insure that your wires are conected prorerly?
i think that you need to have your alternator checked, 15.2V is to high. Normal is 13.7V to 14.2V . "

"Agree with Old Salt....max voltage sounds too high. In the good ol' days you could just replace your voltage regulator, but that's part of your alternator now.

" Jim, are these breakerless distributors? Do they require and do you have ballast resistors installed? "
