Ignition Diod

The end of last season I replaced my entire ignition system on a 60 HP ESL-D 1970. I posted a few questions on this site. I was answered by Joe Reeves. One of the problems on these older motors is that the starter steals excess power in the ignition system. After replacing the CDI amplifier, coil, starter solenoid, stator, etc. etc., I was also told to remove the clipper box when installing the new amplifier, in which I did so. A retro-fit of a twelve volt diod between the ignition side of the starter solenoid to the power lead of the amplifer allowing correct voltage to be applied at all times even when the starter pulls excess volts. After going to three auto parts stores not one of them knew what solenoid to use. They had a catalog with diods but there must have been 300 of them. Can someone please give me an exact part # to simplify my hunt for the correct solenoid?

Also, I was wondering why I was informed to remove the clipper box when installing this new amp, and what does it do? Any info would be helpful.

Thanks,

Tony
