Ignition coil Issues!!!

Hello everyone

First forum post so please excuse any ignorance if any...

I have an 1981 Evinrude 25hp 2 stroke outboard. Currently only sparking off one plug. I have tested both plugs and all wiring to both ignition coils. I have bought a new ignition coil and still no spark off new coil.

Resistance on secondary coil of old working Ig coils is 10000 ohm, resistance on new secondary is 244ohms. All info on web indicates that new coil is within tolerance and can't find any information on that it should be 10000ohms, yet i am still getting spark.

The shop I bought the part from insists its right part.

Does any one know of this particular model having a different ignition coil and if so a link or part number.

Thanks in advance :)

Swap the coils around, with each other. If the problem follows the coil, it is a coil problem. If the problem stays where it was, chances are 99% it is a bad powerpack.

Are you using a open air spark gap tester? Swap coils and if it stays th same the PP is likely bad. The spark must jump a gap of at least 3/8 inch open air gap. If you have a charging system do a complete diag to confirm it is charging properly. A bad stator can cause the power pack to fail.
