Hi first time posting on the forum but i am out of ideas

I have a 1984 140hp Johnson that is not firing at all, i have checked Ohms rating on the stator and timming base timming base is out by 6 Ohms on one side.
I have isolated the Kill circuit and it is fine.
any ideas on what it could be ?

thanks

Re: Ignition

If the starter or battery are not in good shape, then the motor may----------- " crank too slow for ignition to energize "-----------Time to check those 2 items.-----------These starters are easily damaged from abuse ( cranking too much / too long )---------I see them bad all the time.

Re: Ignition

If you can, read the DVA voltage on the pair of brown wires from the stator. They should be up in the 200 v range. If your stator is putting out, the packs would be suspect. However I would never suspect that both packs are bad at the same time. Stranger things have happened, though. But, that simple voltage test is not completely thorough. Have you tried the complete debugging steps shown on CDI's site?

http://www.cdielectronics.com/Support.aspx and click on "CDI Troubleshooting Guide".

Remove spark plugs, rig a spark tester whereas you can set a 7/16" gap. (No tester? Build the following)

Disconnect the large RED electrical plug at the engine. Use a small jumper from the battery terminal of the starter solenoid to the small 3/8" nut terminal of the solenoid that enages the solenoid.

If you now have spark with that RED connector disconnected BUT no spark with it connected, replace the ignition switch. Let us know what you find.
