I have a 1973 Trojan F31 - twin 318 Chryslers

My Stbd engine starts ok but it idles at a very high idle.Too fast to put into gear.

No adjustment with Idle screw. Choke appears to be working. The engine runs cold.

Any help with this problems will be appreciated

Make sure the fuel pump diaphragm hasn't failed. It would be dumping excess fuel into the carb.

"Simply adding more fuel will not raise the idle speed--more air is getting in somehow, and you need to findout where.

I suspect your throttle linkage is not coming back all the way (which is easy to check--simply remove the linkage at the carb). If that's not it, then the carb butterflies are not closing for some reason (binding throttle plates, mis-adjusted throttle plates on the throttle shaft, etc.) Finally, assuming this is a 4 barrel, the rear butterflies may not be closing completely due to binding in the linkage.
