Idle Problems, 2006 8HP Mercury

I have a 2006 Mercury 8HP kicker motor, which I recently got running after over a year without running. It will fire up with the choke on (only if I press the primer bulb) and will idle with the choke on. It will also run with the choke off, but only when I give it some gas. It WILL NOT idle without the choke on! I'm assuming there is something wrong with the low speed circuit/idle circuit. I have cleaned the passages with carb cleaner. Obviously, one is still clogged. Where on earth is the low speed circuit/idle circuit passage? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Really? You have to remove the carb to clean it? I thought you just sprayed the outside and it would work... Do people that stupid really post on these boards? I've already pulled and cleaned the carb. Actually I was just hoping someone could tell me specifically which passage inside the carb is the idle/ low speed circuit, so when I tear it apart again, I can focus on that passage. Thanks anyways.

If you can give us the serial number we can lookup the correct carb for your model, Mercury dose not list outboards by model year, only by serial number.as for idle passages, they are on the top of carb and high speed is on the lower end, but saying that, gas must get from the bowl to the idle circuit, clean the whole carb again, and you must clean out all holes and passages.

The idle circuit plate on top has a brass tube running down to the bowl. Looks like a tube inside a tube. There is probably a lump of dirt stuck to the end of the straw. Set the idle fuel screw to 1 1/2 turns to start.

Sweet. Got it all re-cleaned with carb cleaner and torch tip cleaners. Idles like a champ now. Thanks timebandit for the specifics. For future reference, if you remove the idle circuit plate, there are 4 very tiny holes that enter the carb just behind the choke plate. They are small enough to get clogged much easier than most passages.
