Hello,
I have an 89 Johnson 25 HP electric start with the fuel solenoid primer. The engine was running rough and ran at a high idle speed. I removed the carb, cleaned it and replaced the float / gaskets (I dont think the float was bad but there was a new one in the little kit so why not?). The motor now will start with fuel being supplied by the primer solenoid but wont stay idling. I checked the idle screw which is exactly at the stock 1 1/2 turns out from seat. I adjusted the screw out a couple of turns just to see what it would do and it still doesn't stay running......returned to stock setting. The mechanical idle screw is just touching the idle cam but applying no pressure. When I put even the slightest pressure on the cam with the screw the motor races to high RPM and continues to run like that. I'm not thinking fuel pump because of the previous sentence. I did notice that most of the fuel line connections are secured with small plastic zip ties. I dont see any fuel collecting in the bottom of the motor so dont think there is a fuel leak. Could air in the fuel lines be my problem? Ideas?
Thanks!!!!!!
