"Please help!
I have a 2008 Mercury 50 Hp 2 stroke. Starts good. Runs good. But, sometimes when it has been idling for a while it will die. Idle speed at idle or in gear is right on, but, at times it will like take a sneeze and just die. Help me, please. I get really dispondent with it especially when I am going to load (pontoon) back on the trailer (and you really need the motor running) and it dies.

Try some

Running fresh gas?

Try some new sparkplugs and get yourself a can of Merc's "Powertune" - follow the directions on the can and clean the "cooties" out of the motor.

If that doesn't correct it you may have to do some carb cleaning...

I put new sparkplugs in. Guess I will try the powertune stuff. It drives me nuts. It can run good on idle (in gear and out) and then boom, sneeze (if you know what I mean) and die. Since it has oil injection you wouldn't think that it is loading up on oil."

"The sneeze could be because it's running a little to lean - but I would try the decarb with powertune first.

At worst, you will have a clean powerhead that requires a small adjustment."
