Idle issues 20crcos

Having chased some vacuum leaks after having lean issues I think I got all those taken care and I rebuilt fuel pump at same time, but still having issues.I had thought I got it all tuned in today, but I had to adjust link/sync out of the relm of what the book says.Had to retard it somewhat, but it seemed to idle and go fullbore so off I went .After stopping to fish for a good while I primed it and started first pull, but it would not stay running and idle seemed lower than when I had got it adjusted earlier. If I kept primer out half way RPMs increased and it would stay running, but idle way too high.So I again tried re-sync/link again got it going and off I went, but new it was not still idleing right or at all.At home I pulled plugs and they were pretty black ,opposite from before where they were white and my pistons on top were light colored and now black and wet looking.Am I running too rich somehow now that vac leaks are repaired and fuel pump rebuilt?Stumped now.

Think I fixed it..Cleaned carb out again, doubled checked fuel pump rebuild, removed an in line fuel filter and cleaned the screen on my pick up tube in fuel tank..probably my idle circuit in carb was the issue, but never saw anything come out that I could see..Motor idled perfect after an easy start.Need to get it on the water for a real test now.
