" A week or so ago, I asked for help in seeing if anyone could help me ID my old Johnson o/b. At the time, I didn't have the info off the factory tag. When I went to get it, it had been painted over. Finally got the thing cleaned up, and find the # to be: 115ETL77, and then what looks like the letter "S" just after the 77. So, what do I have? I know it's a long shaft 115hp '77 yr model eng. But, is there anything rare, magic, or unusual about this thing? Reason I ask is because a guy who works in a boat shop who did some of the work on the engine told me it would be much harder to find parts for than other models of that year, becaause it was some kind of "rare" or special model. I always thought that a '77 would pretty much be like other '77s. Comments/thoughts appreciated. "

"RB.... Nothing spectacular there if memory serves me right. In 1977, there were two different 115hp Johnsons manufactured. One had the factory PTT assy that was located between the transom brackets. The other 115 used the add on PTT assy that incorporated external tilt/trim cylinders which were located outside of the transom brackets.
