I agree w/Doc. Looks like a stern mount transducer. They can still be used as a through hull transducer but not w/honeycomb fiberglass hulls.

OK, Well i dont have any depth finders on board, must have been removed by previous owner. The wire runs up to the guages but is tied off besidethe tach. also the tach doesnt work. i searched this forum and found that i need trace my gray wire back to the neg side of the coil. there was a engine harness meltdown before i got it, the tach is the only thing that i haven't figured out. but now i know to trace the gray wire back to coil, is there any other wires? i may need to start another thread, i have hijacked my own thread.....srry

A Stern Mount Transducer is just what is says it is. A Transducer mounted on the Transom, under water, and facing downwards.

Most Transducers in larger vessels are mounted on the outside of the hull, near the bow, close to the keel, to get more precise readings of just how close the sea bed is.

Looks like a thru hull transducer to me. Was it lying loose in bottom of boat or actually attached to the hull?

my depth finder is built into the fish finder and the tranducer could have been mounted in the bilge also or mounted on the stern with the bracket that came in the package.
