I have a 1993 25hp Johnson outboard, electric start. So I got to my lake house an hour away from home and realized I forgot my key for my boat. So instead of writing the day of fishing off I decided (like an idiot) to try and hot wire the ignition switch. I realize I shouldn’t have done that. I didn’t do it right, and it resulted in melted wire insulation (and probably fried wires). I am looking for any info or advice on what components I most likely ruined and will need to replace. I haven’t looked at it since last fall, as I was so upset with myself. Looking forward to comments. No need to call me an idiot, I already know that much, haha

we have no idea what you shorted out or grounded so we cant be much help....fix what wiring you can see that is damaged...check all your fuses...then you will probably have to use a meter and have a basic understanding of dc electricity....start trouble shooting on the simplest thing that dont work...if the motor dont turn over when you try to start it then start there..if the motor spins then check and fix if required the fire problem..what smoked when you did the deed?look in that area and look at you start switch for charring or burning...look under the cowl and the wiring for an inline fuse in one of the wires...a very thorough visual inspection may save you a lot of time...and money
