I need some explanations of terms.

I've been out of the Commercial aspect of outboards for a long time.
Since then, the Mfg's have these terms that are not self-explanatory.

"Loopers"? Maybe "Loop-charged" but I still dont know what it means.

"Ficht". Is there a simple sketchy explanation of that one. I know it has something to do with a Pipe-dream that never actually worked well, but also it came along about the time OMC went out. There may be more to the story.
Anybody?

Is there another term I've forgotton? C'mon back you guys! ;)
 
Looper's or loop charged are different blocks and porting versus the old cross flow motors. A looper (a new design) vs a crossflow of the same HP and the looper is usually faster.

The Ficht was the basic first generation of the fuel injection which had MANY problems and they have since been replaced by the newer e-tec system. Interesting that hi-load lo-Rpm causes Soot which absorbs oil, becoming abrasive. I think that's a common problem with Disels too.

I read on the VRO term also, and as a Shadetree designer, I think the EFI non-direct injection is the safest and most trouble free method available.

Reading about the WWII B-29 engines with a Mechanical direct injection was interesting. That was a Hi-fail rate device too.
