I have a 1971 Evinrude lightwin 4hp motor it's getting gas to the carb bowl is full but it still. Won't start unless I spray gas directly into the carb then it runs a moment an dies what would cause this like it's not picking the gas up out the bowl I cleaned the jets an stuff still same thing

Mixture screws correctly set ?

Carb not properly cleaned ?

Tip(s) of mixture screw(s) broken off and blocking orifice(s)

Was it stored with fuel in the carburetor ?-----Does spark jump a gap of at least 1/4" ----Reed valves checked ?-----Compression checked?

Have the same problem with a 1982 50hp,it was running fine and then died at full throttle.Since then I've been replacing spark plugs, rebuild the carbs, switched the tank, cleaned the lines....it starts only for 2-3 seconds after using spray...
Anyone can help?

Just bought the boat with this 1982 50 HP Evinrude and took it on the sea for few times.Everithing was ok until the engine suddenly died.
The boat came with an old metalic tank which I noticed that had debride and water inside.I replaced the tank with new one, drained the lines. Tried to start again but no results. The spark plugs where not the ones that the manufacturer recomand therefore I replaced with corect ones. I've check the fuel pump and everything is ok,rebuild the carbs ( I've noticed that fuel was leaking from the trouts of the carbswhen cranking). Tested the spark with spark plugs grounded on both cylinders and it has spark.
