I need help identifying a new to me outdrive

I just bought a 1995 carver 250 express. It originally had a volvo penta 5.7 Gi in it. The only reason i know this is the previous owner had all the accessories switched over to the new engine. I ran the serial number on the new engine and it is a 1987 mercruiser 260. What I need to know is what outdrive I have.

What I know:
There is a sticker on the flame arrestor cover that reads
transom assembly
DP-S (290)
4111522228
3868299
There is also a tag on the inner part of the transom that reads DP-S

The drive itself says SP on it.

I took the tag off the outdrive but can not make out any numbers or letters other than DP. The numbers appear to be scratched in not stamped.

I am going to attach some pics on this post. Any help you can give me will be greatly appreciated. thanks.

The SP would suggest to me that this is an AQ Series drive.
Some AQ series transom shields had DPS on them, but this did not reference the DP-S drive.

.

So how would I figure out what drive this is? I have tried to upload pics but I can not. By the way the tag on the inside of the transom shield matches the number from the sticker on the flame arrestor cover i posted above the 4111522228

Here is an early AQ series single prop drive.
If your 1995 drive is an AQ series, the suspension fork will be similar the the drive below this

This is a Duo Prop drive..... likely a DP-C or C1 drive.
Note the suspension fork style, and the way that the cylinders attach.

Both of these use main suspension fork and pivot tube geometry.
These are also a 3 pc drive... upper transmission.... Intermmediate housing.... and lower unit.

Here is an SX style drive.

Here is the DP-S style drive next to an SX .

Both of these are Gimbal suspension systems..... and both are a 2 pc drive.

In 1994 the Gimbal system drive came out.
The AQ series drives were continued right along side of the SX and DP-S for several more years.

Ok well my outdrive does not have DP on the side it just says volvo penta like the aq. It has the same suspension fork and pistons as the c1 but the transom plate does not have a bump stop. My skeg is like the DP photo above. It is a three piece outdrive. It is definitely not the DP-sm or sx.

OK.... you probably have an SP-C drive. This is the good stuff.

1..... So neither the aq or the c1 is a gimbal system,

2..... they both have the primary drive shaft bearings. Is this correct?
1... Correct. These are main suspension fork and pivot tube geometry.... no gimbal system.

2.... Correct. No gimbal bearing....... you have a primary drive shaft with a single sealed bearing.
This shaft/bearing is removable from aft without engine removal.
I'd recommend that you pull this, and replace the single bearing.

Ricardo marine, thank you for your help one last question. When I go looking for parts am I going to look under SP-C or DP-C1?

That would depend on which parts you're looking for.

If engine parts, it should make little difference. Such as PDS bearing and seals.......

If single prop lower unit, then you'll need single prop lower unit parts..... and visa-versa for a Duo Prop.

Drive shaft bellows P/N hasn't changed for years.

Not sure which sea water pump you have... so I'd need at least a photo of it.

Perhaps make a list of what you want to replace.... and post it here.
