I Have Chrysler 360 Questions.. Help!

77Silverton26ft

New member
I just recently purchased a 1977 26ft Silverton, according to all the receipts and paperwork given to me, the motor was replaced with a reman, in 2000 and the Vdrive was replaced in 2004. It has alot of fairly new items install, new carb, fuel pump, etc.. It has a Full Freshwater cooling system, Econo-Kool. So here are my problems, Boat starts no issues, ildes no issues, runs up to around 1500 rpm, with no issues and around 160 operating temp, I have run both tanks empy, fresh gas, new fuel seps, etc.. If I try to run the boat WOT it will hit about 3300 rpm, boat seams to try to plane starts to heat up to about 190 to 200, and begins to bog down and back off throttle..also when I run anything above 1500 rpms I here a clattering sound, sometimes it's steady sometimes it's random, but the hotter the engine gets the more it does it, and the oil pressure also seems to drop the hotter it gets. Any suggetions? I have contacted Econo-Kool in hopes to find the diverter, I assume that this is where the thermostat is located. I plan to replace the ballast resisitor, cap and rotor this weekend, and try some heavier weight oil, I was also told that the boat was pulled last year and bottom cleaned, could there be build up on the prop or shaft that would cause any of this also? I know this is no high speed boat, but figured I could at least get it on plane..

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Sounds like the motor is pinging like crazy. If so, the timing is WAY too advanced, the plugs are way too hot (heat range), or you might have a lean out condition--or a combination of the above.

1. Time it

2. Pull the plugs and eyeball the colors, and look for silvery deposits on the insulator (you'll need an eye loop).

But DON'T keep running it that way! It's Russian Roulette with 5 bullets in the old revolver!

Good idea. Some expensive damage might result if you keep having this problem.

PS: I think machinists are sharp dudes!
