"ok.....Tried this 14x15 and the boat will almost plane out!!!!! Very impressed!!!!!
But it still won't plane. I gained 850 rpm's. This is on a short run. I couldn't resist. I live so close to the water, I came home from work, and had to put the prop on and try it tonight.
We just got back. This prop actually pulled the boat up, but it wouldn't plane. couple hundrred rpm, and I think it will move!!!!!!
It's a 14x15 short hub. My question to this forum is.... Can I repitch the prop to a 13 and gain 200 rpm to move it on? Or should I try something else?
The bad thing about it is that I nudged into a rock wall and it nicked one of the blades. Not bad, but I don't think the prop shop will help me out on the "money back " thing. It isn't damaged, just nicked it.
I think a little more off the pitch will put me there..........What a wonderful thing .....
I think I actually got this boat to 20 knots!!!!!!Just not planing!!!"

"I get the feeling You might need a bit more blade area, and to me a 15 x 15 HS (short hub)might be a better solution.
At what position is Your drive tilt-pin?
What is Your obtained rpm and at what speed? (GPS)
Even a pic of the boat would help a bit."

"Eric, as I said in one of my previous posts, you can repitch an aluminum prop 2" either up or down. So you won't have a problem converting it into a 14 x 13, and it should not cost you too much (around $50-$70 is my guess).

You are on the right track. But with such a small engine for such a comparative large boat, I suggest you should install trim tabs (if you don't already have them). Also, I suggest you should install the outdrive trim pin in the hole closest to the transom instead of in the middle or in the one farthest from the transom. That will help you to plane faster.

20 knots and not planing? Sorry for being skeptical, but I have my doubts. A boat the size of yours should be planing at around 14-15 knots."

"One more thing: if the outdri

"One more thing: if the outdrive trim pin is not in the hole closest to the transom, move it there from where it may be and test the 14 x 15" prop again before repitching it."

"The trim pin is in the middle

"The trim pin is in the middle hole. I will try the on closest to the transom.GREAT IDEA!!! You said that at one point in our conversations. I haven't done that!
MAN!!!! It was awesome to actually see wake coming from this boat.
You have to remember that this boat was at "rest" from the ocean for 6 years!!!! I have a great feeling reviving this thing from a locked up piece of crap, to a boat that has come back to life!!!
It is overwhelming that we can make things happen like this!
This boat would have been a piece of scrap if I wouldn't have been there. It is a beautiful boat.
Anyway.......so you suggest that I try the hole closest to the transom before re-pitching?"

No i don't have trim tabs.

No i don't have trim tabs...... Thought about them tho. Still working on that. You can see my boat at shareaproject.com

"I don't think that you ca

"I don't think that you can get a 13 x 13 for your outdrive unless a shop shaves the tips of the blades in a 14 x 13; and then, you won't get much thrust from that propeller. Since you already have a 14 x 15 that the shop won't likely take back, your best bet is trying again with that prop and with the trim pin in the forward position; and, if that does not do the trick, then re-pitch the prop to 14 x 13. You may also consider testing (if you can get hold of one) a 15 x 13 and see how it goes."

"Is this a deep v hull, it tak

"Is this a deep v hull, it takes lots of power to lift one and maybe you are underpowered if that is your hull design.

How heavy is this boat, does it float where the waterline says it should? Old fiberglass hulls can absorb water and gain weight and become sluggish.
20 knots should generate considerable lift, you should be up there.......

this boat is 2100 pounds.....

this boat is 2100 pounds..... The plate says it is with no gear. I thought about the gain of weight with the fiberglass foam they put in. I am gonna try the trim pin and maybe repitch the prop to 13. Thanks for the input.......
