Hull Anodes

Opinions on Hull Anodes?

1981 42' Gibson, Mississippi River Iowa (i.e. fresh water), No Galvonic protection, I am sure the AC at the marina is poorly grounded... OH, and the water moves by at 1-2 MPH and 5-7 in the spring.

Magnesium??? Mag on all Anodes? (Rudder, prop shaft)

I'd go with magnesium. And be sure all of your exposed metal parts are grounded with cables to a common point.

MAg is the normal recommendation for fresh water. I'd check with the 'locals' to see if that's the norm in your area.

We do shafts (donuts), rudders, and struts.

Jeff's note on the cables is key to getting the most level of protection; without it, your metal won't be fully protected.

You may also want to consider a galvanic isolator for the AC feed if you stay plugged in most of the time.

I agree with the isolators and grounding. The anodes however, though magnesium is an absolute must around aluminum stern drives in fresh water, zinc is just fine around bronze and SS running gear in fresh water according to corrosion tables that I've seen and expirienced in actual conditions.
