How to Verify Seawater Pump is Working

I just bought my first stern drive boat. Its is a 1979 model with a Merc 228.

We put earmuffs on the water intake and turned on the gardern hose. The engine starts and runs fine.

Dumb question -- Where should I be looking for water output?

How do I verify the seapump is working?

Also, I am confused about where the seapump is located. Is it inside the stern drive or belt driven by the engine? I don't see a pump mounted on the engine.

Thanks for helping a beginner.

This a picture of a newer drive but the location and basic look is the same for discussion purposes.

Water exits from the transom assembly both left and right sides and thru the prop.

You do not have sea water pump, on this motor....to see if pumping water stand at back of boat, and you will see water coming out
the best way is, put in water and put hose coming in from drive and start engine....you should get good flow of water...
Doing by water hose will not give you a good picture....reason when hook to tap water it is udder PSI and can pass water pump, making you think motor is pumping good water
