How to tst thermost

have a 1996 90hp with vernatro

have a 1996 90hp with vernatron (thermostat) bought to used heads and it had thermostats with them they look pretty new How can I tst them to make sure they are good. I use to put car thermos in pan of water and heat them on stove will that work with boat thermos

therm.stats are not that exspencive i would replace if your doing the head why not be safe then sorry later eaven if it dose check out to be good the question is for how long it is like a car if you replace one spark plug why not all they could save you time and money later if stat fails later could cost another head gasket or worse
