how to start 50hp 2 stroke 1998 without controls

I asked this once before but just want to make sure I got the answer right. I need to be able to verify that my 50hp 2-stroke can start/run. It has no control cables. I wouldn't mind also being able to confirm that tilt/trim works (relays are there).

To start - can I just jump the starter solenoid with a battery connected as long as I'm careful to make sure engine is in neutral? I guess what I'm also asking is, are all the protection mechanisms effectively disconnected with controls unplugged?

To test tilt trim, I'm assuming I can just connect the three wires on the triangular connector to 12v and ground (as per spec) and then operate the switch?

Thanks, guys.

If you have the battery cables just attach them to a battery. The side TNT switch will work on its own. With the battery connected jump the solenoid to start the motor. You will have no safeties so be careful. To shut it off either cover the carbs or try turning the primer to the manual position.

The primer will have to be set to the manual position to start the engine ????
