How to properly repaint a DPS drive

The drive is quite bad on the

The drive is quite bad on the surface so I want to repaint it. Say that I will start out by brushing it metal clean. Then what?
What primer?
What colour?
What clear coat?
Is there a generic paint system or do I need to use Volvo Penta stuff?

"You do not need to sand the drive down to bare metal. Just ensure that the surface is smooth and clean. First prime the leg with a good zinc chromate primer, Petit makes a nice one. Then I would spray the leg with an aerosol outdrive anti-fouling paint (if kept in the water) or a high quality rattle can. The VP paint is much more expensive and does not provide anti-fouling characteristics. Good luck."
