"This is a fairly easy job. Engine in gear. Remove the visable gearcase bolts and the cavatation zinc. Tilt engine up and remove the bolt inside the cavity where the zinc sits. Hold onto the gearcase as the last bolt is removed as it may start to drop down. If the speedo hose is still connected you will have to snip the tie strap that holds the hose onto the nipple on the gearcase end. Pull off hose. I plugged off my speedo tube so I don't have to worry about reattaching it anymore..they never work anyways...plug up too easy. The leg should just drop free. Remove the 4 bolts around the plastic pump housing slide it up and off driveshaft (note the proper position of stainless housing under the plastic and oil rings alignment) Pry up (carefully ) the small metal collar on top of the housing, there is a plastic bushing under it don't break that prying off the metal collar. Once off the rest of the pump comes off easily, note where the washers go back too. Also note which way the impeller arms are bent inside the housing and replace the same direction. Getting the new impeller back inside the housing can be a bit of a challenge, reassemble in reverse order...the larger rubber o ring can be tricky ...use a bit of grease to hold it in place inside the plastic housing as you repostion it. Make sure the metal and plastic housings mate up properly (there are small tabs that stick up from the top of metal housing) they have to line up and slide into the holes in the plastic housing. They keep the metal housing from spinning out of alignment when the shaft is turning. Put some good grease on the splines of the upper driveshaft (not on the very top..just the splines) When you go to put the gearcase back on you may have to wiggle the prop a bit to get the driveshaft to line up with the powerhead again. (thats why you want the gearcase in gear before you start)"
